Garden inspired wedding bud vases

As a vendor, I always get asked, “What is your favorite part of the wedding design?” or “What is your favorite type of wedding arrangement?”

Naturally, clients and friends always assume that my favorite might be the bride bouquet or the ceremony arch - and don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore those! But the truth is, my favorites always change. As we enter new seasons and trends start to shift, I feel like my favorites rotate along with ‘em. And I don’t think I am the only one.

PINEAPPLE VASES🍍

Why we love fruit centerpieces:

There is no denying that incorporating fresh centerpieces in your wedding table scape will turn heads! Something I loved this past 2022 wedding season was Pineapple Centerpieces. Our brides this year got super creative in including culturally-focused and sustainable centerpieces that were real show-stoppers!

Why pineapples? First of all, we’re in Hawai’i - literally the epicenter of Dole Pineapple Company. When people think of a Hawaii destination wedding, they immediately picture our gorgeous beaches, luscious mountains, and perfect pineapples!

Well, guess what, pineapples aren’t just for eating! A trick that has been around for ages in Hawaiian culture during lu’au (parties) or big events, is “gutting” the pineapple, using the fruit on the inside as snacks for guests to snack on, and filling those gorgeous shells with FLOWERS! The best part of this trend is the fact that nothing of the fruit is wasted. Plus, you cut costs when you choose to use fruit instead of budgeting $200-400 on vases and vessels for your flowers. It’s a win-win for everyone!

This centerpiece trend is beautiful, tropical, culturally sound, and a practical and sustainable tip to incorporate into your wedding.

Monochromatic & Monofloral Pieces

the difference between monochromatic and monofloral arrangements:

Monochromatic, as most people know, is a style of having or focusing on only ONE color. This type of floral design has gained tons of traction in the wedding industry during 2022 due to Pinterest weddings, celebrities, and modern/contemporary wedding design gaining popularity. We are loving every minute of it.

The monochromatic wedding style is most commonly seen depicted in florals that are white (baby’s breath, roses, ranunculus, anthurium, hydrangea) but can be centered around any color palette. This streamlines the overall wedding look and elevates the wedding experience for you and your guests.

Monofloral is similar in a sense that florists incorporate only ONE flower into the entire wedding design. This choice simplifies the floral aspect of the wedding, while highlighting your chosen bloom. This floral move is BOLD. It allows your guests to focus on the details of your day (tablescape, candles, textures) as the focal flower centerpieces enhance that experience.

We can’t wait to see what our couples choose to do in 2023 and are secretly (not so secret) hoping to flower more mono-themed weddings!

Dried Florals

Why we love mixing fresh and dried wedding flowers:

Hello gorgeous! Dried floral arrangements are just a vintage dream and they are an element from your wedding that you can literally keep forever. These are for the rustic, non-traditional brides who want the best of bold preserved, and fresh floral worlds.

The highlight of incorporating dried elements into your fresh arrangements is the range of textures and colors that you can achieve in one look. If you see most of the examples we provided, these arrangements are geared toward couples looking to embody warmer, neutral, and natural wedding palettes.

Here are some of our favorite dried elements to pair with fresh flowers:

  • Pampas (obviously!)

  • Amaranthus

  • Palms: sun palm, palm spears

  • Astilbe

  • Bunny Tails

  • Lunaria

  • Bleached Ruscus

  • Protea

Bud Vases

Why simple bud vases make a huge impact:

The beloved bud vase! These made a serious comeback in 2022 and we know they are here to stay in 2023! We love bud vases for these 3 reasons:

  1. Versatility

  2. You can choose smaller, more delicate flowers

  3. Perfect way to stretch your budget!

Versatility

Bud vases are soooo versatile. You can use as many or as few as you want, and there’s a HUGE range of styles to choose from. It is perfect for your wedding if you are into vintage, quirky details or if you are looking for a modern or sleek wedding design. Bud vases can literally cater to any wedding.

Smaller, Delicate Flowers

Most couples aren’t aware that showstopping “Pinterest flowers” like ranunculus, anemones, cosmos and sweet peas don’t always do the best in large-scale arrangements or centerpieces. These flowers are more finicky and oftentimes require more “babying” during prep, transport, and on the actual day of the wedding. Bud vases allow couples to choose whichever flowers they want without worrying if they’ll die mid-day or end up getting crushed or lost in bulky arrangements. Simplicity is key here!

Make the most of your floral budget

First of all, floral budget really depends on your demographic. The price point for wedding flowers for a destination wedding here in Hawaii will be drastically different for a wedding in Minnesota or Kentucky because most of our flowers need to be imported.

That being said, bud vases are a wonderful and whimsical way to make the most of your floral budget! For example, swapping out the flashy $150 centerpiece of just garden roses would get you 5-10 single-stem bud vases of premium florals like ranunculus, dahlia, peony, garden roses, and more. Something worth thinking about!
